The Music of the Pearl

 The last line of the story symbolizes the end of the pearl and its adventure it brought to Kino and his family. Throughout the story the Pearl brought music to Kino's ears. From the song of Family, to the song of danger, to numerous others. All of those songs would stop playing because of the pearl.  Throwing the Pearl into the water means that the good and bad of it all is over. The pearl had brought hope and dreams for Kino's family. But it also brought fear, greed, and sorrow. The affect on Kino's family was one of mostly sadness.  Not only did his only son, Coyotito, die, but his dreams were crushed. The story of The Pearl was a learning experience for everyone though. The pearl's symbolism in society is of greed. Everyone always wants more. They get one thing, then aren't satisfied with what they have. The best of thing in life can bring out the worst in people. The pearl in Kino's society also symbolizes something uncommon. It brought hope to his people for better lives. The pearl symbolized power.
